President's Message
Welcome to the website of the Society of the War of 1812 in the State of New Jersey. After a brief hiatus, I am happy to unveil our new website and restore our presence on the Internet!
We, the members of our society, are proud of the military accomplishments of our ancestors, many of whom were ordinary people, caught in extra-ordinary times. They took on the world’s leading superpower, Great Britain, and reconfirmed our independence won in 1783. The battles of this war were fought throughout the nation, the oceans, and even in foreign lands.
As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, we seek to educate and perpetuate the memory of the sacrifices made during the War of 1812. We need to stand steadfast during these difficult times in order to honor the memory of our ancestors and their accomplishments. Many do not know that our national anthem the “Star Spangled Banner” was a product of the War of 1812 written at the battle of Fort McHenry.
While the War of 1812 was of short duration, it proved that the American experiment was alive and well. Our nation survived invasions, blockades and a burnt capitol. And many heroes of the war went on to become national political leaders.
Our Society is always seeking new members. If you believe you may qualify for membership, please contact the State Registrar, Sandy Matthew Reisig, at sandyman56@aol.com. Please see the Membership page for qualifications.
