About the Society of the War of 1812
in the State of New Jersey
The Society of the War of 1812 in the State of New Jersey (the "Society") was organized February 25, 1898 and admitted to General Society June 21, 1898. The Society was founded by the descendants of those who participated in the conflict against Great Britain known as the War of 1812, and who joined together to perpetuate its memories and victories. The stated objectives of the Society include to collect and secure for preservation the rolls, records, books and other documents relating to that period; to encourage the research and publication of historical data, including memorials to patriots of that era in our National history; to establish a library and museum; to locate, identify, care for and, when needed, mark the burial site of veterans of that struggle; to cherish, maintain, and extend the institutions of American freedom; and to foster true patriotism and love of country.
