President's Message
After a brief hiatus I am happy to announce the creation of our website which is up and running again! We the People are proud at the Society of the War of 1812 in the State of New Jersey. Our ancestors and the rest of the General Society were simple people who joined local militias, Navy, or federal forces to fight a world power, Great Britain. They fought on land and sea from Canada to Florida to Louisiana and all the way down to Valparaiso, Chile!
As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, we are here to continue to grow, educate and perpetuate the memory of the sacrifices made during the War of 1812. We need to stand steadfast during these difficult times because our ancestors are being dishonored along with our national anthem, “through this perilous fight”. Thus our national anthem was born, The Star Spangled Banner. When the fight was over it gave America hope. At the same time American soldiers and sailors just had beaten the largest land invasion on U.S. ever at the Battle of Plattsburgh. The tide was truly turning in America's favor! Capped off by the tremendous victory of Major General Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans with a “hodge podge” array of soldiers from all walks of life. America would secure its existence in the Second War of Independence. The young nation would forever secure its place on the world map!
We are always seeking new members and prospective members should contact the State Registrar for membership.
God Bless America!
Yours Patriotically,
Mike Ewald Dunham
